Celebrated on 10/02/2026
National Manufacturing Day, celebrated on the first Friday of October, was established to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. In 2023, over 2,800 events were hosted across the United States, allowing students, parents, and community members to tour modern facilities and see cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing and robotics in action.
National Manufacturing Day was first launched in 2012 by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA), along with founding partners the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The initiative was created to address the growing skills gap in the manufacturing sector and to change public perception of manufacturing as a high-tech, rewarding career. The first event featured over 900 open houses at factories across the country, allowing the public to see modern manufacturing firsthand.
Since its inception, National Manufacturing Day has grown significantly, with participation expanding from a single day to a month-long celebration known as Manufacturing Month. In 2016, the holiday was officially recognized by Congress, and today it is celebrated on the first Friday of October each year. Modern commemoration includes factory tours, career fairs, and virtual events that highlight advanced technologies like automation, AI, and sustainable manufacturing practices. The event has become a key platform for manufacturers to connect with local communities and attract young talent.
