Celebrated on 03/11/2026
National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day is celebrated on the second Wednesday of March each year, as part of National Nutrition Month. This day honors the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) who translate scientific nutrition information into practical advice for healthy living. Interestingly, the first National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day was observed in 2008, following a resolution passed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day was established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association) in 2008. The day was created to recognize the vital role registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) play in promoting health and preventing disease through evidence-based nutrition advice. The Academy chose the second Wednesday of March to coincide with National Nutrition Month, which has been observed since 1973 to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
Since its inception, National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day has grown in prominence, with RDNs, healthcare organizations, and community groups using the day to highlight the profession. Celebrations often include educational events, social media campaigns, and recognition ceremonies. The day also serves as an opportunity to inform the public about the rigorous education and training required to become an RDN, including a bachelor's degree, supervised practice, and passing a national exam. In recent years, the Academy has leveraged the day to advocate for expanded access to RDN services in healthcare settings.
