National Day

National Tile Day

Celebrated on 02/23/2026

Quick Fact

National Tile Day celebrates the art and utility of tiles, which have been used for thousands of years. The oldest known tile dates back to around 13,000 BC in modern-day Iran. Today, the global tile industry produces over 12 billion square feet of tile annually.

Origins and Establishment of National Tile Day

National Tile Day was established in 2018 by the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) to honor the craftsmanship and durability of tile. The day was chosen to coincide with the annual Coverings trade show, the largest tile and stone exhibition in North America, which takes place in April. The goal was to educate the public about the benefits of tile and recognize the skilled professionals who install it.

Evolution and Modern Commemoration

Since its inception, National Tile Day has grown through social media campaigns using hashtags like #NationalTileDay and #TileLove. Tile manufacturers, contractors, and designers share photos of innovative tile installations, from intricate mosaics to large-format porcelain slabs. The day also features industry awards, educational workshops, and charity events, such as building tile murals for community spaces.
